Last year I had the greatest time at the Humane Society of Southwest Washington's annual walk and run fund raiser. The best part was that there were "treat stations" all over Esther Short Park! A "treat station" is what I call a vendor booth. There were vendors representing home-made dog biscuits as well as larger companies. Most of them GAVE ME TREATS!

I had my picture taken and I got petted. It was a great day. We chose the 3 mile walk along the Columbia River. I'm not into running... just walking and getting admired.

Dogs vs. Cats Bowl Game for an Important Cause

Not only is this ad cute, it is very meaningful. I was spayed after they picked me up off the streets of Santa Fe New Mexico. It kept me from having yet another litter of unwanted puppies (although I can't believe people would not want MY puppies!).

Northwest Battle Buddies: Dogs Helping Vets (A Coonie Too)

When I saw the Treeing Walker Coonhound being trained in the Northwest Battle Buddies video I was really proud of this dog. I know better than anyone how great coonhounds can be as pets and as support animals. Be sure and watch the video. It starts out with the coonhound!

The effort to rescue, adopt and train shelter dogs to become service companions for returning U.S. soldiers is getting more attention and creating a waiting list for the group that started the program.

This past Memorial Day holiday, Northwest Battle Buddies launched a 60-day campaign to raise $200,000 to train and gift 15 dogs to 15 more U.S. service men & women.

Photo Essay: 2014 Humane Society for Southwest Washington Walk Run for the Animals

 I did it! I walked the 3 mile walk for the animals at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington. Today was such a great day. We animals with loving homes walked for those that do not have homes. But between you and me, it was all about TREATS AND DOGGY FRIENDS!

I've put together a photo essay so you can see you great this event was. It was the best dog event I have ever been to. It was well organized and focused on MY FUN AND MY COMFORT! I loved it. So here's the photos:

They work with students with disabilities in the schools.
I loved the treat! The lady was nice to me, too!

Here's another nice lady. She gave me a treat and a striped scarf.
She was from Unleashed by Petco. It's a special boutique store.

I also stopped by All Natural Pet Supply, Daisy May Dog Treats, Mud Bay and Clark Dog Paw. Most of the booths with treats gave me coupons too! I have never seen so many dog-oriented booths and they were all so nice to me.

I even saw a miniature horse. This horse walked the whole event!

Things got started with Mayor Tim Leavitt talking about how
dog friendly Vancouver is. I totally agree.
But he then admitted he is too busy to own a dog.
He's missing out!

 

People started moving to the starting line. Runners went first.
I made sure to got near the front because I am a fast walker and
I was full of treats and energy!

We were off on our BIG WALK. It went by the Mighty Columbia River

 

There must have been hundreds of dogs!

 

The lines of walkers went as far as the coonie eye could see.

They had plenty of water for us... and a first aid tent too.

 I had about the best time any dog could have. I walked fast, didn't stop and sniff much and stayed away from the overly intrusive dogs. I did 3 miles in an hour. I AM WALKER CINNAMON!

I am going to do this event every year. Thank you HUMANE SOCIETY FOR SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON for a great day and for caring about us animals!

Cinnamon is Ready for the Humane Society Walk

Here I am modeling my official event scarf

Today I got my walker packet for the Humane Society for Southwest Washington fundraiser walk. It isn't until Saturday but if you pick up your packet early you can sleep in longer on Saturday (makes sense to me!).

Now I am an official walker just like my friend, Walking Wendy. She walks half marathons all the time. I can't do that. I CAN walk 10 K though! The walk on Saturday is only 3 miles so that's about 5K. It should be easy because it will be cooler in the morning.

So in my packet I got an official walker scarf. It is a beautiful shade of green. I'm going to wear it on Saturday along with my Clark Co. dog license and all the mandatory stuff.

I really liked the treats!

I also got some treats in the bag. They were really good. I already ate BOTH OF THEM! Saturday is going to be great. There will be lots of dogs. There will be pet vendors with lots of stuff that I would be interested in. And, I'm hoping for treats at the finish line.

So far, I haven't done very well at fund-raising. I'm kinda sad about that.

Updates from Cinnamon: My welfare and that of Beau the Coonhound

Hi it's me, Cinnamon. I'm at the Doggie Country Club. This isn't jail. They have free WiFi... although I forgot to pack my computer. I'd better make it short.

For those who sympathized with me about how cold I might be at night... NOT TO WORRY! Anne Ogle, I won't have to break out and head over to your house to warm my beautiful coat by your fireplace. In fact, they have a plan for cold nights like this. They divide the dogs into short haired dogs and long-haired dogs.

I am a short haired dog and I can get cold. While my Huskie buddy hates warm rooms. So my room is in the "Short Haired Dog Wing." They keep the heat turned up here. And, they DO check on us. I have my private room and my private run but don't have to worry about getting cold. The staff is really good here!

So on to more important things. Remember Beau, the Coonie who got attacked by a mountain lion? Well, his skin healed so well that they took him into surgery this week and he was in for over 3 hours. It seems like his leg was just, well... ripped. So the surgeons fixed the tears and the muscles and did their best to give him the best leg he could have.

Here's Beau after surgery. We ALL hate the "Cone of Shame!"

He will have some healing time and then will have to go into rehab. I hope. I pray that Beau can use his leg. Meanwhile the surgeons wrapped up his leg really tight and it has to stay that way for a couple of weeks while he heals.

But the funniest part (if there is one) is that he has to wear the "cone of shame" during the healing time. Beau can't be trusted not to take healing into his own hands.

It's nice to help out others

My coonie friend Beau who was attacked by a mountain lion is still recovering at the rescue lady's house. Meanwhile I noticed that in this recent photo MY PHOTO CARD TO HIM is posted right in the middle. It made me feel good to see it and know that Beau has lots of friends rooting for him!

Beau is home but still will need surgery

My coonie friend Beau is home from the hospital and is staying with the rescue lady.

My spirits are uplifted today. That poor coonhound that was in the hospital was released. Now mind you, he has to have daily dressing changes on his mountain lion bites and will have to return for surgery, but he's much happier in a home with other dogs rather than that hospital where he had tubes for everything.

Between you and me, I can tell he is still hurting. Know how? Well, he is panting and it isn't hot there. When my dog friends are hurting they pant. What I have heard is when the swelling goes down and the infection is gone for good, they will do the surgery and pin his leg. So if you are interested in donating, he still needs your support. My Coonie Friend Beau is in the Hospital

I usually don't write about sad things (well, except when I got bitten on my nose), but I have a Facebook Friend (Urban Coonhounds FB Group) who is in the hospital. My heart goes out to him because he was a rescue like me several years ago and found a home. But something terrible happened to my friend Beau last week... he got attacked by a mountain lion. Here's Beau in the ER:

This is what Colorado Coonhound Rescue is saying about MY FRIEND:  Beau the B&T has been at the ER at Deer Creek since Sat. He was attacked by a large animal (mountain lion suspected) last Wed/Thurs and relinquished to us on Saturday so we could get him the care he needs. He's a rescue Alum and the first time in rescue 4 years ago he stole the hearts of everyone around him as he recovered from being emaciated and very ill. He's doing it again We're entering into his treatment plan today for the toggle pin in his hip and his 4-6 month recovery period. Total cost of treatment is $3412.91 plus about $30 a day for 7 days of wound care for the bites.

Here's the note I sent to Beau yesterday. I was really bummed out after I heard that he might have to have his leg amputated.

Turns out, they don't think they will have to do that. There is more to this story including why poor Beau didn't get medical attention right away. But I'll spare you the details. Here's what the nice lady who transported him to the Vet said: It really is Beau that's AWESOME you guys. I just took him to the vet. He's got a solid and true spirit. Any other dog would have bit my face off when I had to move him out of my truck and onto the stretcher, but not Beau, he just made little groany sounds and licked my arm as I scootched him out best I could. Any other dog would have bit me when I lifted him into my truck, but not Beau, he just wagged his tail and begged for my lunch (which I shared).

Beau is in really good hands but I am still worried. 

Meanwhile, I am so emotionally drained, I think I'll take a nap.
