More Snow! Time for Comfort Food

It snowed yesterday and the day before. And at night it is really cold. So we don't go out much (well, farther than the street in front of the house). We can't go to the store and we can't go through a burger drive-up (I love that!). So what did we do last night? We cooked! And I did my very best to help.

Here I am helping. See, I stay back from the stove in case the oil spatters.
And I stand watch in case something falls to the floor and needs a coonie clean-up crew!

I think chicken is a great comfort food. I know I would be much more comfortable if I got a whole piece of fried chicken for dinner (hint, hint)

Here's the chicken cooking away in the frying pan.
I think I would like that piece on the right with the pepper on it. OK?
When you make chicken, you have to drain it and put it in a paper towel so it isn't greasy. For good measure we put it in the oven at 300 degrees for awhile so it would be extra done and crispy. By that time my mouth was really watering.

Here I am looking extra pitiful. Can I have a whole piece please? Now?
Well, time came for dinner and a salad was added to the chicken. Now I don't like salad so there should be more chicken for me right? I begged and looked ever so pitiful. I tried my hardest. But before she took the chicken out of the oven she filled my bowl with..... chicken! Now, don't think I got my way. The bowl was filled with Evanger's chicken and brown rice kibble

I was horrified. After all the help I gave her in the kitchen... I get kibble? I ate my kibble of course and then watched her eat dinner. I have to admit that she gave me a BITE OF CHICKEN... ONE BITE! And, for that, I should be grateful?

I am ready for the snow to stop and the fun at the dog park to begin. Only then will I quit obsessing with comfort food.

Snow at MY HOME!

Yesterday, I got a real shock. It started snowing! Now, I am used to snow because I grew up in Santa Fe. I loved the look of the snow on the adobe walls. I loved the smell of the pinon burning in the kiva fireplaces. There are some things I really miss about HOME.

But in Vancouver, Washington, my new home, I found out there was snow too! It got cold and then it started to spit little balls of ice and, by afternoon, the fluffly flakes were coming down.

I kept busy, though.

When it started snowing I looked up and down the street for CATS!
I was hoping the snow would make them easier to see. I love to bark at them.

By afternoon it was starting to snow huge flakes. Even the kitties stayed away.
Since I am well behaved, I went out in the snow to use the outhouse... without complaining.
Here I am checking for squirrels and looking, generally, very pretty!
By night it was quiet. It looked like a little Christmas village.

This morning while I slept in the squirrel got into my yard and started eating bird food.
The food is FOR THE BIRDS!
Mid morning I got to go for a walk out in front and scare a kitty! Arooo!
They say more snow is on the way. I'm ready. I have my toys and lots of food. I'm stocked up. I am boycotting the Olympics, like most dogs, but there is always the news and the Pet Channel! I'll keep you posted on my Facebook Page (unless the electricity goes out!).

Coonhound Definitions: Coonie Ball

This is a stellar example of a "Coonie Ball"
Today is a great day to talk about "Coonie Balls." No, I'm not getting personal about male dogs or talking about the latest toy.

Today it is really cold out. Well, cold for here in Washington state. It is supposed to snow. The wind is whipping the tops of the tall Douglas Fir trees and I DON'T WANT TO GET OUT OF BED!

When I want to be protected or to stay warm I curl up in a very tight ball. I tuck my nose and tail in and end up with a very neat ball. I can make myself look very small this way.

So here it is 8:30 in the morning and I'm still balled up. This sleeping position is known among us houndies as a "Coonie Ball." I'm very good at making them.

Wake me up when it gets warm, OK?

Cinnamon Gets a Gift: What is it?

My owner came home from the coffee shop with something FOR ME! It was a gift from my friend Nancy. Nancy is the creative type so I got really excited when I saw what she gave to me. It was a BONE! No, it was a BONE SHAPED TREAT! No, it was a....... I was totally perplexed.
It didn't smell like a bone or a treat.
So I sniffed and I nosed it and finally gave up and asked... "And, what IS this?" Turns out it was a clay bone with a cute ribbon hangar. It was for MY ROOM (not that I have a room that is totally my own).
Hand made clay bone hangar

So I took it upstairs and hung it on the door. These are made by the lady who makes the cute mugs at Mon Ami Cafe. Her name is Kelly Keigwin. She even makes mugs with dogs on them!

I like getting gifts... even if I am not sure what they are! Thank you dear friend, Nancy!

Lighted Leash Winner Announced!

Congratulations to Angela P. You won!

Super Bowl.... RUINED!

Yesterday was supposed to be a fun day. And for the most part, it was.

We started by watching the Kitten Bowl and I enjoyed the balls of fur batting around balls and toys. They were cute. I realized, of course, that there is a point where cats are no longer cute kittens AND DESERVE TO BE CHASED! I love kittens but I really don't like cats.

Then we watched the Puppy Bowl. Now that was the best show ever. Puppies are cute and when they grow up into dogs, they are still cute and are destined to be MY FRIENDS!

It was then time for the Human Bowl... named the Super Bowl. It wasn't quite as interesting. Fortunately we had company for awhile and that entertained me.

I was getting ready to leave when the humans decided it was time to go downtown and listen to jazz. But NO, they slammed the door in my face. I didn't get to go! So much for Super Bowl fun at my house.

But that wasn't the worst of it. Later in the evening I heard that dreaded sound... SNAP, POP, BANG! It was FIREWORKS! The Seahawks won the game which made another excuse for humans to set off FIREWORKS!  I hate them. I get scared. I freak out.

First I cowered in my crate. But they didn't stop. Then I ran around the house looking for a place where I couldn't hear the fireworks. But it didn't work. Finally, I decided to curl up in a ball in the front entry way where there are no windows. That worked somewhat.

When my owner got home she found me under the table in the entry way curled up in a very tight coonie ball asleep. And then she realized.... there had been fireworks and I had been all alone... scared.

Isn't there a law in Vancouver? I believe there is. And I also believe it is not enforced.

I guess it's time to open the DAF (Dogs Against Fireworks) National Headquarters. There is work to be done.

Meanwhile, I'm sleeping in this morning. It was a rough evening. Super Bowl Sunday was ruined for me.
