Country Club Drama: Cinnamon Gets it in the Face

You would think that my Country Club stays would be all about fun and pampering. But in reality, there are some major challenges... challenges in affable facades. Let me tell all! (grab a cup of tea for this one.)

I had been at my Country Club for three days when the tide turned. I'd been playing with the puppies and the elder dogs, and resting too. Life was good. I got two squares and all the water I could drink. People played with me. Life was good.

Enter Goldie, the Golden Retriever. Goldie was one of those two faced Beverly Hills type dogs. Innocent on the outside.. only. She was a blue blood and probably had papers (I only have a rabies certificate!). She acted nice so she had the people fooled.

On Sunday, I was sitting next to Goldie minding my own business watching the younger dogs play. She was sitting there in all her blonde glory basking in the sunlight. The people thought she was so sweet. They petted her and brushed her golden hair. She was the darling of the play yard. Well, that's because they couldn't understand what she said. She was a two faced gossip. People don't understand dog language, that's for sure.

Goldie? Innocent? NOT!

All of a sudden she started talking to me. And it wasn't pretty. She said she heard that I was nothing but a street dog from Mexico. What? I was from NEW MEXICO! She was really mean.

She taunted me and went on to suggest that I must be part of a Mexican dog treat cartel... Dealing in illegal dog treats. A Mexican dog treat cartel! Imagine!

Yo soy una buena perra! I am a good dog! I follow most all laws... really!

Then she started to tell me my nails were too long. I gave her "the look."

I think she was just trying to start something. She kept taunting me, insulting my heritage and my homeland. I had enough and told her to shut up! Cállate, I said.

See... New Mexico is in the US!

And that's when she growled and lunged for me. Of course she made sure no one was watching first. She took a nip out of the side of my face! Ouch! That me me mad! So I nipped her ear. :) She didn't like that and whined to the people in charge.

They ran over and looked at both of us. There was blood on both of us. I required first aid. They put hydrogen peroxide on my wound and it stung.  And they told me it was MY fault.. It certainly wasn't. She started it!

We were separated. No big loss, I thought. I think she was jealous because I am a celebrity. I am a well known blogger.  She was also jealous because word got around that I was getting a spa treatment before I went home.

By yesterday I felt just fine. The swelling had gone down and, luckily, Goldie's owners picked her up. (I saw their Mercedes drive up the long drive to the Club.) My spa appointment time came. The people came and took me to the spa room. They had a fancy tub with sweet smelling shampoo. I told them I might need a facial after what happened to me. BUT ALL THEY WERE GOING TO DO IS GIVE ME A BATH! I put up with it and they washed all the dust out of my coat. I came out shiny and smelling gorgeous. I am sure Goldie didn't have it so good!

So when my owner arrived yesterday afternoon I was really glad to see her. I was shiny and smelled great. The lady in the office showed her my wound and told her version of the Goldie vs. Cinnamon story. But I am sure my owner BELIEVES ME!

I got home and was so worn out from all that drama, I just went straight to bed.

What I Think of My New Healthy Dog Food #PawNatural

I've been trying a new kibble, Canine PowerFood™, a new holistic dog food developed by Only Natural Pet.

The Painting of MY Bench: Better Late Than Never

You may recall that I posted a survey to get input on the best bench color for my old weathered blue bench. Well that was clear back in MARCH! The winning color was turquoise and I really looked forward to my newly painted bench.

That's when the waiting started. Nothing happened. Nothing got painted. I ended up relaxing on a paint-chipped sorry excuse for a bench FOR SIX MONTHS. SIX MONTHS, MIND YOU!

So today, there was movement in the right direction. We got in the car and pulled into the HOME DEPOT parking lot!

Notice how sunny it is. A great day for bench painting, I thought!

Now this Home Depot allows dogs so I hopped out of the car, and proudly walked in. I was even greeted by the Home Depot greeter at the door! We headed straight away for the paint department. There were so many choices, I didn't know where to begin.

Luckily for me there was a staffmember named David who helped us out. He spoke Spanish, too. I read that on his apron. Gracias Amigo!

So David said to pick out any color we wanted and he would mix that color in a quart of paint for MY BENCH. He recommended semi-gloss.

So once we chose our color (the turquoise reminded me of my home town, Santa Fe) the paint was mixed and put into a machine to make sure it was ready for painting. While they did that, I schmoozed with the other patrons and chose a brush.

We took our paint and I trotted out the door. I LIKE HOME DEPOT!

Soon we were home. My owner got everything ready and then I decided to take a nap and stay out of her way. When I woke up I saw the first coat ON MY BEAUTIFUL BENCH (Banco in Spanish). More work has to be done but I know I'll love relaxing on it.

Don't say it's too bright. It will get darker when it dries.
And, besides, I LOVE IT!

House Hunting Cinnamon Style: Trees are a Good Thing

Well, last week was a busy one in the house-hunting process. We drove by to see the house that we made an offer on. I didn't get out of the car but got to check out the neighborhood during our drive-by. Here is what I saw:

I'd love living on a cul de sac with neighbors who take care of their homes.
(they even put the garbage out on time!)

Now this is promising. A park right across the street!

Here's the house. It has its own trees, a big fenced yard and a front porch (portal).
But does it have squirrels? Only time will tell!

I am keeping my paws crossed that this will be my new house. I noticed it has a fireplace. I'll bet I'd look good all curled up in front of a warm fireplace. But I think what I'd like best is being settled and looking up at ALL THOSE TREES!

Trying a New Healthy Dog Food #PawNatural

I love getting food in the mail!

I've been trying a new dog food. I received a sample to try before the product was even available. They wanted MY opinion.

Well, before I even tasted the sample Canine PowerFood™, a new holistic dog food developed by Only Natural Pet (ONP), I was pretty impressed. This dog food is 100% natural, allergy friendly (meaning it shouldn't cause any allergy symptoms) and it is made in the USA. Good stuff, I thought.

I didn't used to care what was in my food. As long as it tasted good and smelled good, I gobbled it up. I'd eat anything! But now that I am over 6 years old, I'm being more careful. I want to continue to be healthy and live as long as I can. There are squirrels to chase and frogs to scare, you know!

Good Stuff for Good Pets!

I read all about the new food before even trying a little bit. It is a kibble and was formulated by a holistic veterinarian. The information that came with the food told me that Canine PowerFood™ is packed  with  protein,  amino  acids  and  essential  fatty  acids,  the  PowerFood™  also  contains  low‐glycemic  carbohydrates  like garbanzos  and  lentils  (which  are  sourced  from  farms  in  Minnesota  and  Wisconsin  and  offer  healthy,  long  lasting  energy  without  spiking  blood  sugar)  and  fruits  and  vegetables  that  offer  whole  food  sources  of  important  vitamins  and  minerals.

But I didn't get a full bowl right away. I was careful how I transitioned. First I had the taste... yep! But then for dinner, I got a bowl of food made up with 3/4 of my regular food and 1/4 with the new Canine PowerFood™.

We did that for a couple of days. After that, since I was doing well on the food, I started having half portion of the old food and half a portion of the new food and did that for a couple of days. And finally, since I was doing just fine, I got a whole bowl of Canine PowerFood™.

It's important to change food gradually. Some dogs take longer because they have sensitive stomachs. Most dogs are ready to have 100% of a new food after about 10 days.

I tried the poultry feast with chicken and turkey So far, so good. It's delicious. I haven't taken off like a rocket quite yet, but I'm waiting. Meanwhile I feel pretty good and had a great romp with my Country Cousins when I visited this past weekend. I ran around the house. I ran around the pasture and had a great time. I wonder if they should be eating Canine PowerFood™. They are older than me and could use a little bit of get up and go!
